May 18, 2019 10:30am saw the start of the Team’s half marathon in Central Park.
The day started with blue skies and an upbeat team escorted to the starting line, Columbus Circle by the NYPD. Again, thanks to the NYPD for their unstinting support.
The Szambel family greeted the team at Central Park and as is their tradition provided support and refreshment for the entire team throughout the event.
85 runners in half uniform circumnavigated the Park’s lower loop to complete the distance in bright sunshine. New Yorkers and visitors to the city were out in force enjoying a perfect spring day. The runners and their supporters were roundly applauded during the run for their efforts to aid families dealing with childhood cancer.
The entire team successfully finished the run; with some sweat but no injuries.
CBS 2 news were kind enough to film the start and speak to organisers, participants and supporters about the unique annual run and more importantly its objective of raising money to fund vital research into the paediatric cancer, Neuroblastoma.
Tomorrow the team turn to the west side of Manhattan where at 10:13am they join the NYPD in respectful memory of fallen officers.
